I love Hopper's paintings. Zizek had some interesting things to say about Hopper when I was reading Enjoy Your Symptoms! for my psychoanalysis class. Zizek emphasized that Hopper usually has a window/frame of some kind and the gaze of person/couple in his work, which help extend the painting beyond its actual physical frame. There are usually external light sources too. Zizek argues that this creates "an inherent instability of vision," in which what we see is a fragment.
